Setting a New Standard in Human-Robot Collaboration: COBOTTA to Demonstrate its Full Potential in a Series of Applications at Hannover Messe 2019.

DENSO Robotics' light weight cobot to be showcased in nine exciting lab and industry applications at this year’s Hannover Messe.

One of the highlights at the world's leading industry trade show, HANNOVER MESSE (April 1-5, 2019), will be COBOTTA, the innovative, compact robot by DENSO Robotics for safe human-robot-collaboration which will set new standards in the HRC segment.

COBOTTA, the latest member of the company’s robot family, will demonstrate its full performance potential, technical efficiency and wide range of operations in a series of nine exciting, real-life applications for lab and industry tasks at the DENSO Robotics stand (hall 17, booth C67) – some of which are being shown in Europe for the very first time.

“Our presentation not only marks the series start of COBOTTA in Europe”, says Jürgen Küch, Senior Manager, DENSO Robotics Europe, “but also proves the many advantages COBOTTA offers to customers in research, science and industry across the HRC segment.”

With a unit weight of only 4 kg and an integrated controller, as well as comprehensive safety features, COBOTTA is easy to transport and can be quickly put to work; thanks to its graphically designed App „COBOTTA World“, the robot is truly easy to operate. It makes it easy to program typical applications and pick & place tasks by using a tablet. COBOTTA has been developed as an open-source platform and thus can be integrated into existing systems.

At the DENSO Robotics stand, visitors can experience COBOTTA in these nine exciting applications:

  • Mini Factory: Automatic assembly line of 3 color pens
  • Pipetting:  Application for laboratories
  • Screwing: Automatic tightening of small screws for industry purposes
  • Sealing: 3D dispensing of glue
  • Mobile Platform: A COBOTTA mounted on a mini AGV
  • Linear Motion: COBOTTA on an IPR linear axis
  • Parts Feeding: MINI EYEFEEDER with COBOTTA
  • Canon Vision: Extended multi-vision system for flexible 2D recognition and handling of multiple parts
  • SPOON: Interactive communications tool

With a loading capacity of up to 0.5 kg (0.7 kg wrist direction downward) and its unique compact design, COBOTTA is particularly well suited for operating in small spaces and in direct collaboration with humans. A special focus was placed on safety: The robot features an inherently safe design (lightweight arm without sharp edges or pinch points, minimal possible application of force and pressure thanks to adequately developed drive technology) and guarantees a “functional safety” by constantly monitoring torque and speeds of all axis.

Last but not least, its speed (up to 900 mm/sec.) has been adjusted to the interaction with humans; depending on the application and a prior risk assessment, this makes a safety cell unnecessary. Thanks to this combination, COBOTTA complies with the requirements of ISO standards ISO 10218-1, ISO/TS 15066 and ISO 13849-1:2015 PLd Cat.3.

Thanks to the fully integrated, built-in electrical gripper and a built-in A/F camera in the robot arm, combined with the standard programming Apps, users can easily create force-controlled gripper applications as well as other applications in just a few minutes. This also enables 2D image recognition.

Using another app, Remote TP“, experts can also design complex applications using DENSO’s comprehensive robot programming language PacScript with the help of a virtual robot teaching assistant.
